Parameter saving solution for SSRS

iParameter for SSRS

SSRS - SQL Server Reporting Service, is one important element to Microsoft Business Intelligence. For more than 10 years, report displays graph, numbers, charts and other important information. To get all these data on your reports, searching criteria becomes part of the process to filter all your data to useful data. And here, is the start of the problem.

A company can have tons of reports; each reports contains different parameters; a parameter could be a date, a sentence, a name, a couple words, a single value, or a multi-value parameter - which may contain hundred to thousands choices. You know what you want, but you need all these criteria/parameters entered, selected, then you can "View Report".

Like above sample report (based on Microsoft Adventure Works). To get the sales statistics in different area, you will need to select the country, then the state. In the tiny but long drop down list, you will need to select the right country, and then the right state. For just this four simple parameters, they may already take you minutes, or even longer  in order to get the information you need.

People is asking one question: Is there a way to save those parameters ? Yes, CiQuest Lab. is proposing the solution to you...

Introducing the iParameter :: Less clicking, more viewing

With iParameter, you can save your parameters and use it all the time, with just 3 simple clicks -
Go to Parameter, Select and View !

Like saving a file, iParameter has 4 basic actions,

  1. No action - View Report

  2. Save As New - Save your newly created parameter (Manual refresh browser required to see new parameter showing in Parameter drop down list)

  3. Save - Update your existing parameter (Manual refresh browser required to see new value(s) saved before)

  4. Delete - Delete the parameter you selected (Manual refresh browser required to see the parameter removed from the Parameter drop down list).

iParameter provides the following key features:

  1. Parameter saving - No matter the type of the parameter, iParameter can save it. Simply give it a (parameter) name, and choose the right action (Save As New or Save). You can use it next time when you need it by selecting from the Parameter drop down list - 1 simple click.

  2. User oriented - iParameter is designed to take your account. So you won't see other users' parameters. Of course, you can also set your parameter to public, so everyone can use it.

  3. Easy to apply - In order to use iParameter, the report will need to be revised, including parameters, datasets and scripting. You can revise your reports by following our setup guide or have us do the work for you.

  4. Simple maintenance - You can save your report parameter(s) through your report directly - save as new, save (overwrite), or delete; or from iParameter Management Console to maintain your saved parameters.

  5. Subscription compatible - Once your parameter is saved, you or your administrator can create subscription based on your parameter.
